What makes a YouTube video viral? While it is really a difficult thing to say, in a world turning to web-based content, what makes a video click, YouTube has put out an amazing Rewind retrospective video about the content which made way to the top of viral content on the streaming platform in 2016. Like every year, this time too, the roster is quite impressive. The channel has added more than 200 content creators in the mash of most popular trends in videos, songs and memes in 2016. The mashup for the video has been done by The Hood Internet and then remixed by major Lazer. Last year, YouTube added the ‘Trending Tab’ on its website and app to show the hot content that has been rising to the top of the charts.
The videos selected by YouTube is based on views, shares and likes. There are 10 videos which collectively ha more than 55 crore views and have been watched for more than 2.5 crore hours. The content of the videos is as varied as it gets. From an Adele song to the popular James Corden Carpool Karaoke as well as curiosity about what’s inside a rattlesnake’s rattle show the different kinds of content people are fascinated by. And then there is the ‘pen-pineapple-apple-pen’ song which took the internet by storm. Additionally, there were comedy shows like that of John Oliver who slowly is becoming a world’ favourite comic ‘journalist’.
