Amazon expects its Great Indian Festival 2024 to be one of the largest shopping events, driven by thousands of new product launches, deep discounts, reduced seller registration fees, and faster deliveries facilitated by expanded fulfillment centres.
“Last year, over 38,000 sellers achieved their highest-ever single-day sales on the platform. This year, we expect the sales to be even bigger and better,” said Gaurav Bhatnagar, Director Sales, Amazon India.
Bhatnagar, who was in the city on Wednesday to discuss the company’s preparations for the festival, highlighted efforts over the past few months leading up to the event, which kicks off tomorrow.

In preparation for the festive season, Amazon India recently reduced selling fees by 3% to 12% across categories such as groceries, fashion, and electronics, effective from September 9. The revised rate structure is particularly beneficial for sellers offering affordable products priced below ₹500.
Bhatnagar said that the fee reduction will significantly benefit small and midsize businesses (SMBs), helping them optimise operations, invest in new product launches, and drive business growth during the festive season and beyond.
Amazon India currently has over 16 lakh sellers, with more than 90% being SMBs, entrepreneurs, local shop owners, and artisans. To further support sellers, the company has introduced several new tools and features, including a sales event planner for managing sales events, AI-powered product imaging and listing services, and an upgraded Self Service Registration (SSR 2.0) to simplify seller onboarding.
“Many of these sellers are first-timers in e-commerce. While they have strong offline businesses, they are exploring online sales and require guidance. SSR allows them to register, launch, and list products on the marketplace in minutes,” Bhatnagar added.
He also highlighted the opening of three new fulfillment centers in Delhi NCR, Guwahati, and Patna, along with the creation of over 110,000 seasonal job opportunities across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai to meet the upcoming festive demand.
Bhatnagar said Amazon India’s partnership with Indian Railways has been one of the key enablers for one-day and two-day deliveries across the country. “We have signed a MoU with Indian Railways in 2019 and we have seen a 15x increase in volumes since then,” he added.
The Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 will see over 25,000 new product launches across categories including electronics, fashion, home décor, and groceries.
