Ex-Twitch boss Emmett Shear will be the new interim CEO, Reuters reported citing ‘The Information’. After Sam Altman was fired from OpenAI, and despite efforts from the company’s executives to bring him back, Altman will not return as the CEO of OpenAI.

Emmett Shear co-founded Twitch, the Amazon.com Inc.-owned live video streaming platform. He had stepped down earlier this year.

However, OpenAI has not yet officially made a statement on Shear’s appointment. The report by ‘The Information’ did not give any other details.

Altman, along with former OpenAI President Greg Brockman, convened with company executives at the San Francisco headquarters on Sunday. This meeting followed interim CEO Mira Murati’s announcement to staff that she had invited Altman, as initially reported by The Information.

Reuters reported that Altman is engaged in discussions regarding a potential comeback to the company responsible for the ChatGPT bot. Simultaneously, he is exploring ways to enhance the company’s governance structure. Additionally, Altman is contemplating the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) venture.

On Friday, the company’s board terminated Altman, a prominent figure in generative AI, causing significant ripples throughout the tech industry. His abrupt dismissal shocked many.

On Sunday, Altman took to the messaging platform X to share an image of himself wearing an OpenAI guest badge, accompanied by the caption: “first and last time i ever wear one of these.”

The dismissal of Altman sparked frustration among current and former employees. Concerns loomed regarding the potential impact of the sudden management upheaval on an impending $86 billion share sale.

Furthermore, Brockman, OpenAI’s former president and co-founder, made an appearance at the office on Sunday, as reported by The Information. Brockman had previously resigned from the board as chairman amid the management reorganization and officially announced his departure from the company on Friday.
