Xiaomi is trying something different this year. Instead of going pro or ultra, it has decided to launch the Xiaomi 14 in India, a detour from last year, or even the year before that, when the 13 Pro and 12 Pro were launched in the country. It isn’t immediately clear what the future holds for the Xiaomi 14 Pro (and Xiaomi 14 Ultra), but the Xiaomi 14 is coming to India on March 7, 2024.
The Xiaomi 14 series is making its global debut on February 25. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are already a go in China since last year, and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, too, will arrive in Xiaomi’s home market on February 22. But only one of these phones —Xiaomi 14— seems to be coming to India to begin with, at least that is what we can make out from its launch reveal teaser. If there is some update about the other phones, we will share it.
Anyhow, it’s good that the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are the same phones for the most part. The Xiaomi 14 is smaller and so, it has a smaller screen and a smaller battery (with slower charging). The other big difference is that the 14 uses a slightly less powerful lens for the main camera sensor (which is same as the 14 Pro).
Xiaomi 14 launch: specs, features
The Xiaomi 14 has a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The panel can top 3,000 nits, Xiaomi says, and supports Dolby Vision. Powering the 14 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with HyperOS software based on Android 14. It has a 4,610mAh battery with 90W fast wired and 50W wireless charging.
The triple camera setup here has a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation and f/1.6 lens (23mm equivalent), 50-megapixel 3.2x telephoto (75mm) and another 50-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide. The front camera is a 32-megapixel.
