Just after the Apple iPhone 16 series launch , certain Apple products face ‘high severity’ warnings from the Government. As reported by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team(CERT-In), Apple products can face vulnerabilities.
Is your Apple product safe?
According to CERT-In, many Apple products have faced security flaws. So, what are these flaws and how can these be vulnerable? Certain Apple devices have the potential to allow attackers to get access to their devices. Reportedly, the attackers can drain data or control of your device secretly. These could eventually lead to leakage of sensitive data and cause harm to you. For example if your personal data such as location gets detected , you might be tracked and pose a threat to yourself.
The CERT-In has listed some of the most vulnerable Apple products. According to the team the devices include some of the iPhones models. This include the following:
- iPhone running on iOS versions prior to iOS 17.7 and iOS 18.
- The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 also have the potential to be vulnerable to such high risks.
In addition to this, other Apple products including Mac, Apple TV, iPad and Apple Watch also come under the ‘high severity’ list. Please note that the iPhone 16 does not come under the danger zone, CERT-In highlighted.
Furthermore, “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products which could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code.” explained CERT-In in its advisory. These vulnerabilities can also bypass authentication and security restrictions to cause denial of service (DoS) conditions. Also it can gain elevated privileges such as executing spoofing attacks on the targeted devices.
How to keep your device protected
The news comes just after Apple launched its new iPhone 16 series. This has raised concern among many of the Apple fans. Looking at the number of Apple fans, these vulnerabilities might impact the fan following list. However, the CERT-In team explained that you can protect your device by following some rules. So, how do you protect your device? Here’s how you can:
- First you need to update your Apple device. Other than iPhone you need to update tvOS (versions prior to 18), watchOS (versions prior to 11) and lastly visionOS (versions prior to 2).
- You also need to update your search engine which is Safari. The Safari versions prior to 18 need to be updated.
- Xcode versions prior to 1 also need to be updated.
- You also need to keep your device protected by using password or Two-factor authentication.
- Lastly, avoid sharing passwords of streaming devices such as Amazon or Netflix with too many people.
