WhatsApp is making significant strides in both privacy and accessibility. The chat app, which claims to be fully encrypted, recently announced the introduction of a secret code feature to lock chats. It’s worth noting that earlier this year, WhatsApp unveiled a proxy server to circumvent internet shutdowns in certain areas. According to a recent online report, the Meta-owned app is now working on a new text status feature with disappearing options.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the website that keeps track of every WhatsApp-related developments, the chat app is developing a new text status feature that includes disappearing options. The feature is available for iOS beta testers, and it is included in update version 2.23.20.12.

The core essence of this feature lies in granting users greater control over the visibility of their personal information. This innovative text status feature, currently being developed for WhatsApp’s iOS beta testers in update version 2.23.20.12, allows users to set a timer for their profile description. This timer ensures that the description automatically disappears after a specified period, fortifying the privacy on app.

WhatsApp announces secret code to lock chats

WhatsApp has announced a new security feature known as the “secret code,” that aims to improve the privacy of users’ locked chats. It adds an extra layer of protection, allowing users not only to safeguard their private conversations through device biometrics but also lets you hide the entire locked chats folder from the chat list.

“With a secret code you’ll now be able to set a unique password different from what you use to unlock your phone to give your locked chats an extra layer of privacy. You’ll have the option to hide the Locked Chats folder from your chatlist so that they can only be discovered by typing your secret code in the search bar. If that doesn’t suit your needs, you can still choose to have them appear in your chatlist. Whenever there’s a new chat which you want to lock, you can now long press to lock it rather than visiting the chat’s settings,” chat app wrote in the announcement blog post.
