ChatGPT has introduced a significant enhancement on WhatsApp, as OpenAI has officially launched image creation features via the verified number 1-800-ChatGPT. With this update, users can now generate AI-powered visuals right from their chats within the WhatsApp app.
The image creation tool, which was once limited to ChatGPT’s web and mobile platforms, has now been extended to WhatsApp users as well. Through simple text prompts, users can ask the AI to generate unique visuals or make edits to uploaded images based on specific directions. This functionality is available at no cost and has been rolled out worldwide in all areas where ChatGPT operates on WhatsApp.

OpenAI made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter. The company wrote, “ChatGPT image generation is now available in WhatsApp via 1-800-ChatGPT. Now available to everyone.” Another post stated, “Don’t forget to link your ChatGPT account to 1-800-ChatGPT in WhatsApp to get more image generations.”
Here’s how you can start using ChatGPT on WhatsApp:
Add the official contact: Save the number +1-800-ChatGPT (+1-800-242-8478) to your phone’s contact list.
Initiate a conversation: Open WhatsApp and send a simple “Hi” to begin interacting with ChatGPT.
Verify your OpenAI account: You’ll be prompted to authenticate your identity. Follow the instructions to securely log in and connect your OpenAI account.
Begin image generation: Once your account is linked, you can send prompts like “design a futuristic skyline at dusk” or “illustrate a dog surfing on Mars.” The AI will reply with custom images created using DALL·E.
In addition, WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out in-app advertisements for the first time. With over two billion monthly active users worldwide, the popular messaging platform is set to introduce its most prominent ad features to date—marking a major step in Meta’s push to generate revenue from the app.
