After Snapchat, it looks like WhatsApp also plans to bring augmented reality (AR) effects for video calls. Reportedly, WhatsApp is working on a feature where you can add VR effects and filters during your WhatsApp video calls.
The new feature is expected to be available for android users in the future soon. It looks like after Snapchat and Apple decided to bring AR effects in its ‘lenses’ and ‘face-time’ respectively, WhatsApp also took part in this venture.
WhatsApp meets VR
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13 is working on an Augmented Reality feature to introduce call effects and filters in video calls.
The new AR effects will allow you to add fun and interactive elements to your video calls while also enhancing the overall visual experience. You can now personalize your calls by adding dynamic facial filters, such as a touch-up tool for smoothing skin appearance, and a low-light mode to improve visibility in dim environments. Now get a more ‘connected’ feel with your loved ones with the AR-based video calls.
According to WABetaInfo, another AR feature for call effects and filters is under development and is expected to be available in a future update.
What’s more
Reportedly WhatsApp seems to be working on a feature that can allow you to edit backgrounds dring video calls. Maybe you can add a colourful and playful touch to your daily ‘black and green’ conversations.
It also plans to introduce other effects that can make video calls more entertaining and engaging. Users will soon have the option to use an avatar in place of their real-time video feed, providing creative expression options during calls, as explained in WABetaInfo. This feature can allow you to maintain anonymity or express yourselves creatively through avatars. It looks like creating avatars can contribute to ensuring privacy, looking at the reportedly rising rate of cybercrimes through social media.
