WhatsApp is bringing a more secure way for Android users to log into their accounts. The chat company is rolling out new passkey support for Android users that doesn’t rely on traditional passwords such as the two-factor authentication.
With passkey support, users can use their phone’s face recognition, fingerprint scan, or a PIN number to access their WhatsApp accounts. Passkey is considered more secure and convenient than using regular passwords. It’s similar to how Google recently started encouraging users to set up passkeys for added security.
This passkey feature was tested in WhatsApp’s beta version and is now becoming available to all Android users. This change makes it easier and safer for people to protect their WhatsApp accounts, reducing the risk of their passwords being stolen in data breaches or through phishing attacks.

With the increasing cases of password theft, phishing attacks and the hassle of memorising long and complex passwords, tech companies are increasingly adopting passkey support. For the unawares, passkeys are secret keys that replace the traditional password. It is a combination of key pair wherein one key is public, registered with the website or app you’re using. The other key is private stored on users’ devices.
