WhatsApp has introduced a significant update in its latest beta version, 24.16.10.72, by replacing the traditional green verification badge with a blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses.
According to WaBetaInfo, the chat company’s latest move aligns with the verification system of Meta’s other platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, which also use blue checkmarks for verified accounts. The update, which is currently available to select beta testers, replaces the old green verification badge with a blue checkmark.
The key changes in the update include the green badge that previously indicated verified channels and businesses on WhatsApp. It is now being swapped for a blue checkmark. By aligning WhatsApp’s verification symbol with those used on Facebook and Instagram, Meta seeks to create a more cohesive user experience and improve brand recognition across its apps.
The blue checkmark serves as an indicator of verified status, which helps users identify genuine channels and businesses, similar to how we see on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The aim is to reduce the risk of impersonation and enhance interaction safety.
While the feature is being made available to some iOS beta testers, it is expected to roll out more broadly over the coming weeks. Users who have installed recent updates of WhatsApp from the App Store might also start seeing the new blue checkmark, even if they are not part of the beta program.
This update follows Meta’s introduction of Meta Verified, a feature announced by Mark Zuckerberg two months ago. Meta Verified aims to provide businesses and individuals with enhanced verification and visibility, reflecting a broader trend of standardized verification practices across Meta’s digital ecosystem.
