Google has laid-off more than 100 people who were working in design related positions at the company. According to a report by CNBC Google has laid-off employees belonging to the Google’s cloud unit “Quantitative user experience research” team. Meanwhile som people working in the Platform and Service experience team have also been shown the door.
Employees working in the aforementioned teams and positions focused on using data, surveys nd other tools to understand and implement user behaviour that inform product development and design.
Although most of the design teams at Cloud Unit Division have been shown the door by Google. Yet some of these employees have been given an extended period of time till December to find a new role or position within Google itself. Interestingly most of the Design team layoffs have happened in the US.

The layoffs by Google are a way to keep the headcount of employees in check. However the latest round of layoffs are an effort to to divert the funds towards its Artificial Intelligence programme. Moreover since the AI race is heating up and other players like Meta and Microsoft are increasing pending on their AI programmes this decision becomes important for Google.

Google although has been offering voluntary exit packages to many of it’s US based units across the company. Moreover it has eliminated about 1/3 of managers that oversee small teams at Google. This shows Google has slowly and steady decreasing roles and positions at the company to reduce costs.
