Samsung will reportedly give the Galaxy Z Fold 7, its next book-style foldable expected to release in July, an incremental but all-important change making it more user-friendly than the previous models. The smartphone might look the same, as far as overall design is concerned, but thanks to some cleaver engineering, the device may become thinner. We’ve seen this approach at work on the new Galaxy S25 Ultra so it’s not one bit surprising that the Fold 7 is getting a similar treatment.
Noted tipster Onleaks (via Android Headlines) has released a fresh set of renders (CAD images) of the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 7, showing it off from all angles. The accompanying information states that it would come in about 1.1 mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. More specifically, the Fold 7 is tipped to measure roughly 4.5 mm in thickness when unfolded while folded, it is said to be just 9.5 mm with the camera bump included. Once you take the camera bump out of the picture, it becomes even thinner—at 9 mm.
Sadly, despite the trim, Samsung still doesn’t manage to make the world’s thinnest book-style foldable, so it seems. The title currently sits with Oppo for the Find N5 which is just 4.2 mm, i.e., super thin. Since Oppo isn’t keeping it exclusive to the China market—like its predecessor—more people have access to the “world’s thinnest foldable” leaving Samsung with something to think about.
The updated physical dimensions should entail more screen real estate and apparently that is the case with the Fold 7 as well. The report suggests Samsung will be able to offer slightly bigger inner and outer cover screens with the former being 8.2-inch and the latter, 6.5-inch. This would make it the bookstyle-foldable with the biggest displays on the market, at least till the time somebody else comes along to offer something even bigger. The Oppo Find N5 for context has an 8.12-inch inner screen.
Samsung has been slowly and steadily updating—improving—the aspect ratio of the cover display making it a bit wider with every new generation thus making it more useful and user-friendly. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 should have a more useful outer display, too.
There is a very high chance that the Fold 7 would come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite like the Galaxy S25 series devices but whether Samsung will go for the binned version—like the Find N5—remains to be seen. For photography, it is expected to pack a new 200-megapixel primary sensor while battery capacity is expected to remain unchanged at 4400mAh.
