The next generation of Samsung’s highly anticipated foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, are set to be unveiled at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025. The launch will take place in Brooklyn, New York, and will be livestreamed globally starting at 7:30 PM IST, promising a deep dive into Samsung’s latest innovations in foldable technology and AI.

Samsung has already begun teasing next-generation Galaxy devices with a new AI-powered interface and “breakthrough hardware,” thus fueling immense anticipation for the event. Based on the rumours, we could see an Ultra version of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 this year, which could end up being the most expensive smartphone from the South Korean giant.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: What to expect

Leaks and teasers suggest a focus on a slimmer and lighter design, with the device potentially measuring as thin as 3.9mm when unfolded and around 8.9mm when closed. This would make it Samsung’s slimmest foldable to date, thus taking a dig at Huawei and Honor. The design is said to draw slight inspiration from the Galaxy S25.

In terms of displays, rumours point to a larger inner screen of 8 inches (up from 7.6 inches on the Fold 6) and a bigger cover display of 6.5 inches. Both are expected to be AMOLED panels with up to 120Hz of variable refresh rate. Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is tipped to be powered by an upgraded version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip optimized for Samsung’s ecosystem.

The camera system is also slated for a major upgrade, reportedly featuring a 200-megapixel main camera, similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, along with a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto lens. The outer selfie camera is expected to remain 10MP, but a notable change might be the absence of an under-display camera (UDC) for the inner screen, which could be replaced with a hole-punch design for improved selfie quality.

The device is expected to ship with Android 16-based One UI 8 and will heavily integrate Galaxy AI features, optimized for the foldable format. The battery capacity is rumoured to remain at 4,400mAh, with improvements in battery life relying on the enhanced power efficiency of the new Snapdragon chipset.

Expected price in India: Reports suggest the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could start at around Rs 1.65 lakh in India.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Big new upgrade this year?

For the Galaxy Z Flip 7, leaks indicate an edge-to-edge cover display, similar to Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra. The dual-camera system on the cover display will be integrated as a dual punch-hole within the OLED panel, accompanied by an LED flashlight. Colour options are rumoured to include Blue Shadow, Coral Red, and Jet Black.

The main foldable display is expected to be 6.8 inches with a 120Hz refresh rate (variable). Powering the Z Flip 7 will likely be a Snapdragon 8 Elite or Exynos 2500 chipset, both of which should ensure strong performance. It’s anticipated to come with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB.

For optics, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to feature a dual 50MP + 50MP rear camera system and a 12MP front camera. Battery capacity is expected to be around 4,000mAh, with 45W fast charging support. It will also run on Android 16-based One UI 8 and benefit from the Galaxy AI suite.

Expected price in India: The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is projected to start around Rs 1.10 lakh in India.

Additional announcements

There is also a possibility of Samsung unveiling the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE — a refreshed version of the outgoing Galaxy Z Flip 6 retaining the older generation chipset and the folder-shaped cover display.

Beyond the foldables, Samsung may also unveil the Galaxy Watch 8 series and the recently teased Galaxy Buds Core at the Unpacked event.
