Reliance Jio has silently revamped its data-only prepaid plans, streamlining the portfolio and introducing a budget-friendly Rs 11 plan with 10GB of data and a one-hour validity. This new addition, its most affordable option to date, aims to cater to users needing quick data access without the requirement of an active plan.

Unlike Jio’s standard booster packs, these “data-only” add-ons work independently, providing a standalone option for users who may not have an existing plan. While they lack voice or SMS benefits, the popularity of calling apps like WhatsApp makes this less of a drawback.

Here’s a look at Jio’s updated data plans:

  1. Rs 11 Plan: Offers 10GB data, valid for one hour.
  2. Rs 49 Plan: Delivers 25GB data with a one-day validity.
  3. Rs 175 Plan: Provides 10GB data with a 28-day validity, along with access to 10 OTT apps, including JioCinema Premium, Sony LIV, ZEE5, and others.
  4. Rs 219 Plan: Includes 30GB data with a 30-day validity.
  5. Rs 289 Plan: Offers 40GB data, also valid for 30 days.
  6. Rs 359 Plan: The top-tier option with 50GB data for a 30-day period.

Jio data-only plans: Before and after

These revamped plans have simplified Jio’s portfolio, reducing the number of options while focusing on value. Previously, Jio offered long-term plans and more extensive OTT bundles, some of which have now been simplified or retired. For example, the former Rs 148 pack provided 10GB data over 28 days and access to 12 OTT services, while the Rs 301 plan offered 50GB data for 30 days.

Jio’s new Rs 175 plan stands out with its OTT inclusion, providing access to apps like JioCinema and ZEE5, adding extra value for those seeking entertainment options along with data.

The move away from annual data plans signals a shift towards shorter-term options, perhaps in response to consumer demand for flexibility and targeted data usage. The previous Rs 2,878 annual plan, offering 2GB data daily data, is notably absent in this lineup.
