Realme 12 Pro series 5G has launched in India today, per schedule. As widely teased, the line-up brings big focus on premium design aesthetics and class-leading photography prowess headlined by the Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G, Realme’s first smartphone with a periscope camera since the Realme X3 SuperZoom from 2020.

Interestingly, Realme is using almost the same setup (sensor/lens) as the OnePlus 12 that costs a whopping Rs 65,000. Joining the Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G is the relatively more affordable Realme 12 Pro 5G. It also has a dedicated telephoto camera, but not the periscope-type. The company has tied up with veteran designers and cinematographers to make its Realme 12 Pro series 5G stand out from competition, primarily Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 13 Pro series phones.

The Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro Plus are mostly similar. They share the same basic design template with a vegan leather back panel available in a choice of blue and beige (the Realme 12 Pro Plus gets an additional red option).

They are both IP65 rated (again, like the OnePlus 12) and feature a curved display with the following specs— 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED with 1080p resolution and up to 950nits of peak brightness. HDR support is unspecified, though you do get something called ProXDR which allows you to see HDR photos in highest quality without clipping the highlights. Realme doesn’t mention any screen protection either.

The Realme 12 Pro Plus gets a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 like the Redmi Note 13 Pro and Poco X6. You’ll be able to get it in 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB trims. The Realme 12 Pro has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and comes in 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB configurations.

Likewise, the Realme 12 Pro Plus also has a more jacked up camera setup. It has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, paired to a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor behind a 3x periscope telephoto lens (also 6x in-sensor, up to 120x digital), and another 8-megapixel ultrawide. On the front, it has a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

The Realme 12 Pro has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX822 sensor (with OIS), 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 behind a 2x telephoto (like the Oppo Reno 11), and the same 8MP ultrawide as the pro plus model. Here, you get a 16-megapixel camera for selfies.

Both phones are running Android 14 with Realme UI 5.0 and come powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging. Rounding off the package are dual speakers with Dolby Atmos playback support.
