Qualcomm’s freshly minted Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor brings Gen AI to the Snapdragon 6 series for the first time. Launching globally today, the 6 Gen 4 will allow affordable mid-range smartphones from Realme, Oppo, Honor and more to support a bunch of new Gen AI capabilities from voice-activated assistants to background noise cancellation during calls, making them both smarter and relevant in the modern-day.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is based on a 4-nanometre (4nm) TSMC manufacturing process and features a “newly architected” 8-core Kryo CPU capable of clocking 2.3 GHz. Qualcomm says it is 11 percent faster than the one on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. The Adreno GPU—which is unspecified—is said to be 29 percent faster and supports HDR gaming. Storage up to UFS3.1 is supported. RAM can be up to 16GB LPDDR5 (3200 MHz) or LPDR4X (2133 MHz). Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU adds INT4, which is another first for the Snapdragon 6-series.
The whole thing is apparently 12 percent more efficient, too, which is a good sign for battery life.

“Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 will drive the next leap forward for smartphones in the mid-tier thanks to significant advancements in AI, gaming and photography,” Deepu John, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said in a statement shared over email. “This platform brings a new level of performance and power efficiency for users to enjoy virtually anywhere with ultra-fast 5G and Wi-Fi, enhancing their everyday activities whether playing, creating, or working.”
Connectivity options include 5G mmWave (2 carriers, 2×2 MIMO) and sub-6 GHz, standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes (4×4 MIMO), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB Type-C Gen 3.1.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports FHD+ displays at up to 144Hz refresh rate and 200-megapixel camera sensors (video up to 4K @ 30 FPS HDR is supported).
Qualcomm says devices rocking its new Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chip are coming in the coming months.
