Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas in a recent interview revealed that there are at least two white collar jobs that Perplexity’s Comet browser should be able to take away soon. Srinivas explained how Comet will eventually be able to replace the job of a recruiter after the introduction of a bettter reasoning model like a GPT-5 or Claude 4.5.

During a recent podcast with The Verge, Srinivas shared that Comet is built to handle comprehensive workplace functions such as organizing calendars, responding to emails, and contacting potential job applicants. Although it’s currently available only through invitation and targeted at premium users, the tool’s functionality hints at significant changes ahead in how work gets done.

AI-powered browser:

Srinivas revealed that Comet, the company’s AI-powered browser, is on track to soon eliminate at least two white-collar roles. He described how, with the advancement of more sophisticated reasoning models such as GPT-5 or Claude 4.5, Comet could eventually take over responsibilities traditionally handled by recruiters.

He also teased Comet’s long-term vision as a full-fledged AI operating system for knowledge workers—capable of carrying out instructions issued through natural language commands.

“A recruiter’s work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs. And then you’ve got to do state tracking.” Srinivas said on the podcast.

“you want it to keep following up, keep a track of their responses. If some people respond, go and update the Google Sheets, mark the status as responded or in progress and follow up with those candidates, sync with my Google calendar, and then resolve conflicts and schedule a chat, and then push me a brief ahead of the meeting. Some of these things should be proactive. It doesn’t even have to be a prompt.” he added

Stop the scroll. Start building skills that matter — Aravind Srinivas

Aravind Srinivas has urged young people to cut back on aimless Instagram scrolling and invest their time in mastering AI technologies. During a recent discussion with Matthew Berman, Srinivas highlighted that those who embrace and effectively use artificial intelligence early on will hold a distinct edge in future employment opportunities, describing this transformation as “unavoidable.”

He warned that individuals who fail to stay current in the rapidly advancing field of artificial intelligence—where significant developments happen every three to six months—could fall behind in their careers.

Srinivas acknowledged that navigating the fast-paced nature of technological progress is challenging and pointed out that, historically, humans have not been especially quick to adapt to transformative changes.
