If you’re an iPhone user and you use WhatsApp, keep calm if you suddenly found the app “all green.” You’re not alone. If you’re wondering, wasn’t it always green, well, no, it wasn’t. It was blue. We’ll let that sink in for a moment.
Now, the full lowdown. WhatsApp is pushing out a new update on iOS that brings a bunch of visual changes to the app. The most striking change is the switch from a blue to green theming, “throughout WhatsApp.”
Previously, you’d find green “sporadically” inside the app even though it is the brand’s official colour — that is in fact stated as the reason behind the switch (WhatsApp says it is so, everything aligns with its brand colour).
WhatsApp adds that it is using colours more intentionally now so people can focus on the things that matter most on the screen. Some of its icons and buttons also look different, while some parts are more spaced out than before.
The changes are part of new WhatsApp version 24.8.83 and are geared to make user experience more modern. In case you’re wondering, what if you liked blue, turns out, as and when the update hits your devices, there will be no option to opt out.
In related news, WhatsApp has also started to add support for “passkeys” to its iOS app which would allow users to log into their account using the preferred medium they’d use generally to log into their iPhones such as fingerprint or face or PIN. The iOS update is coming a few months after Android, where WhatsApp brought passkey support in October 2023.
