OpenAI, a leading force in artificial intelligence, is preparing to roll out its GPT-5 model as soon as August, according to a Thursday report from The Verge citing insider sources. Unlike previous versions, GPT-5 is expected to function as a collection of specialized AI systems rather than a single, unified model—each tailored to handle different tasks and capabilities.

“While GPT-5 looks likely to debut in early August, OpenAI’s planned release dates often shift to respond to development challenges, server capacity issues, or even rival AI model announcements and leaks,” according to the report.
