The Connections puzzle in the New York Times tasks players with sorting 16 words into four unique groups based on common themes. This game is designed to test both language and logic skills, as participants identify patterns and relationships between the words. The puzzle format offers a mentally stimulating challenge that can range in difficulty, with each day’s version providing a fresh and engaging experience.

How to Play NYT Connections

The goal of the Connections puzzle is to group 16 words into four categories, with each category having four words that are related in some way. Players have four tries to sort the words, and each choice helps give more hints. The game uses colours to show how hard the categories are: yellow groups are more manageable, and purple groups are more complicated. As you keep playing, the categories become clearer, and each correct group brings you closer to solving the puzzle. The New York Times updates the puzzle every day at midnight with 16 new words. It’s free to play on their website or app, offering a new challenge each day.

Tips for Solving the NYT Connections Puzzle

To increase your chances of solving a tough puzzle, start by finding groups of three words that are related. Once you have a set of three, the fourth word will usually become easier to identify. As you continue grouping words, you may spot patterns that help you figure out the other categories. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t solve it on your first attempt—puzzle-solving takes time and trial and error. Each guess brings you closer to figuring out all the categories, and the game offers a fun and satisfying challenge.
