OpenAI is to add a new feature to ChatGPT that will help in bringing GPTs into any conversation by tagging the selected GPT by using the @ command. The AI startup mentioned that GPTs, when tagged, will possess the complete context of the conversation, and various GPTs can be introduced to assist with distinct requirements.
It is noteworthy that OpenAI only offers, at the moment, the ability to browse, create, and use GPTs to its paid customers, hence the new feature will not be available to all users yet.
OpenAI informed about the new feature through a post on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, “You can now bring GPTs into any conversation in ChatGPT – simply type @ and select the GPT. This allows you to add relevant GPTs with the full context of the conversation.”
OpenAI rolled out a GPT store at the beginning of this month. The store helped users find useful popular GPTs which was similar to the working of App stores.
OpenAI reported that more than 3 million customized versions of ChatGPT have been generated since the introduction of GPTs at its first developer conference approximately three months ago.
The GPT store concept aimed to enable developers to potentially monetize by selling their customized GPTs, with the company planning to introduce this feature. The Sam Altman-led company is yet to enhance the adoption of GPTs.
TechCrunch cited Similarweb data and reported that custom GPTs constitute just 2.7% of the overall traffic on the OpenAI website. Notably, this traffic has witnessed a decline every month since the initial launch.
What are GPTs?
Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) refer to custom editions of ChatGPT that users can generate by paying. These custom GPTs enable users to craft a chatbot tailored to their specific requirements, and they have the option to share it with others for their use.
The customized GPTs are equipped with internet access, DALL-E, and code interpreters. Beyond the built-in functionalities, developers can further specify custom actions by supplying APIs to the GPT.
