Nothing has started teasing a “new edition” of the Phone 2a that it says is “designed for India.” The exact colourway remains a mystery but the wording seems to suggest that it will be something new and exclusive for the Indian market. More details about the new edition Phone 2a will be revealed on April 29 at 12PM, as per a listing on Flipkart.
The Phone 2a currently sells in India in black and white, but in select markets, a third option called “milk” is also available. Nothing is also running a contest to allow its community to design a special edition of the Phone 2a, that is due to release later this year. It has announced the winners of the first stage with Kenta and Astrid’s “Phosphorescence” Phone 2a concept beating over 400 entries for best hardware design.
The duo, which operates an architectural company together, now stands a chance to work closely with Nothing’s industrial design and R&D teams to fashion a Phone 2a Community Edition. The final product’s wallpapers, packaging, and marketing campaign will also be picked from the ideas of the Nothing community, through separate contests in May, June, and July, respectively.
The Phone 2a is Nothing’s most affordable smartphone to date. At a starting price of Rs 23,999, Nothing has been able to create a lot of smartphone for a lot less money. Even though a phone like the OnePlus Nord CE 4 beats the pants off it in raw performance, Nothing scores big on overall value with a combination of unique design, striking software choices, and stellar cameras, not to mention great battery life.
With some of its recent moves, including the announcement of a new edition designed for India, Nothing is clearly looking to eke most out of what is already one of the best phones in the market at its price point, before calling in the big guns, aka, the Phone 3. Watch this space for more updates.
