Can loneliness impact you so much that you land up driving an auto-rickshaw on weekends? Here’s what a Microsoft engineer  does on his weekends to combat loneliness.According to a social media post, a Microsoft engineer moonlights as an auto-rickshaw driver to combat his feelings of isolation. 

The post on X (formerly known as Twitter), showcased the engineer in his company hoodie driving an auto-rickshaw. The post further explained that the Microsoft techie suffers from loneliness. So, he drives an auto-rickshaw on his weekend to keep himself engaged.

In a post on X on July 22,Venkatesh Gupta, a techie, posted a picture of a 35-year old software engineer at Microsoft driving an auto rickshaw. The 35-year old was wearing a black coloured Microsoft hoodie. 

He wrote “ Met a 35 year old staff software engineer at Microsoft in Kormangala driving Namma Yatri to combat loneliness on weekends.” After the Bengaluru resident’s social media post went viral,  people have raised questions against big tech companies, about catering to the ‘mental health’ of corporate employees.

Netizens react

In recent times mental health awareness has been gaining eyeballs. Many individuals are expected to fight with issues such as loneliness, anxiety and depression among others. The recent activity can be a live example of how people are being affected. After the video of the 35-year old got viral, some supported him by saying  “That’s great, he knows how important mental health is. Change of subject is rest. An engineer at my office works as a bartender to relax.”

“If it’s true, it’s really cool! It’s absolutely fine to be riding autos/ driving taxis. I’ve met really good folks abroad who run good businesses yet drive uber whenever free. The reason being, they simply like driving, meeting new people & they do not do it for the money,” wrote another user. 

“Not the 1st time  I hear people doing this part-time job, and why not if it relieves them in any way. But considering the traffic madness, it may not give relaxation to mind. Forgetting the money part,” the fourth user commented on the post. 

Further, come raised questions around the tech industry. As the technology sector continues to boom, it looks like companies are not caring enough about their employees. A user explained that it’s concerning how there is ‘deep dark’ slide of technology. He further added that “ Even if technology has connected everything, it has also made the world so lonely.”
