Microsoft has announced the addition of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered support for several regional Indian languages in its Microsoft 365 Copilot chatbot, aiming to extend the tool’s accessibility across a broader user base in India. The latest update includes support for Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu, among other unspecified languages.
This move follows Microsoft’s earlier integration of prompt query support for 27 languages, including Indian English, into the 365 Copilot. The expanded language capabilities are designed to offer accurate translations and contextually relevant responses, simplifying access to information and facilitating everyday tasks for users in their preferred languages.
For those unaware, Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-driven productivity tool leveraging large language models (LLMs) to deliver real-time, intelligent assistance. It aims to enhance user creativity, productivity, and skill development by integrating seamlessly with widely used Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
In a related development, Microsoft recently unveiled ‘Team Copilot,’ an enhancement of the existing Copilot functionality within Microsoft 365. Announced at the Microsoft Build 2024 event by CEO Satya Nadella, Team Copilot is designed to go beyond the role of a mere personal assistant, acting as a valuable team member, Redmond says. This new feature will enable the AI to manage meeting agendas, improving collaboration and project management among team members.
The addition of regional language support underscores Microsoft’s commitment to making its AI-powered tools more inclusive and accessible. By enabling users to interact with Microsoft 365 Copilot in their native languages, the company aims to break down language barriers and enhance the overall user experience, particularly in a diverse country like India.
