Meta for India: Mark Zuckerberg announces WhatsApp Flows, Meta Verified launch timeline, other updates

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced several new features at company’s second Annual Conversations conference held in Mumbai this year. He announced a number of new features and initiatives for India, including WhatsApp workflows, Meta Verified for business, and the expansion of payments services.

“India, (is) a country that’s at the forefront of a lot of what we’re going to talk about today. You’re (India is) leading the world in terms of how people and businesses have embraced messaging as the better way to get things done,” Zuckerberg said at the event.

WhatsApp workflows

Meta announced a new feature called WhatsApp workflows. This new feature allows businesses to automate tasks such as customer support and order fulfillment. It empowers businesses to create customised experiences directly within chat threads. It enables various functions, such as scheduling appointments, placing orders, or checking in for flights, all without the need to exit the chat.

Businesses can use predefined building blocks to craft their unique experiences, offering customers a faster and more convenient way to interact compared to switching between different apps or websites.

“[WhatsApp Flows] gives businesses the ability to create customized experiences right within chat threads,” said Zuckerberg.

Meta payment platform comes to India

Following the successful introduction of its payment solution in Brazil and Singapore, Meta has now revealed plans to extend its Meta Pay service to the Indian market. Meta Pay is now available to WhatsApp users in India.

Meta’s payment service in India will not only support its own payment method but also integrate with various Unified Payments Interface (UPI) apps. According to Zuckerberg, this will make it easier for people to pay Indian businesses within a WhatsApp chat using whatever method they want. Meta Pay users can send and receive money from friends and family, and make payments to businesses.

Meta Verified for business

Meta Verified is a new subscription service that allows businesses to get verified on Facebook and Instagram. Businesses that subscribe are going to get a verified badge, account support, impersonation protection and additional features that will help people find them more easily. So for WhatsApp, this includes premium features like a custom web page and increased multi-device support.
