Contrary to circulating reports, Reliance Jio has not extended the validity of its Rs 349 prepaid plan. The plan continues to offer a 28-day validity, not the 30 days as some outlets have incorrectly reported. The Rs 349 plan remains the entry-point to access Jio’s unlimited 5G service after the recent tariff hike on July 3, 2024.

The confusion stems from a tweet by Jio marketing the Rs 349 plan, in which it was described as having a “1-month validity.” This led many to mistakenly believe that Jio had increased the plan’s validity from 28 days to 30 days, supposedly in response to customer feedback. However, the tweet made no mention of such a change.

Verification on both the My Jio app and the Jio website shows that the Rs 349 plan still lists a 28-day validity. This confirms that there have been no changes to the plan’s validity at the time of writing. Any updates to the plan will be reported as they happen.

Currently, the Rs 349 Jio plan offers 2GB of 4G data per day, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS per day for a period of 28 days. It is now the lowest-cost plan to access Jio’s unlimited 5G service. Prior to July 3, the unlimited 5G benefit was available with plans as low as Rs 239. However, following the recent tariff hike, Jio not only increased the price of the Rs 239 plan but also removed the unlimited 5G benefit from it. Now, only plans offering 2GB/day data or more qualify for the unlimited 5G perk.

In related news, Jio has quietly reintroduced its Rs 999 prepaid plan, following the tariff hike that had raised its price to Rs 1,199. The most notable change in the Rs 999 plan is its extended validity, now spanning 98 days, up from the previous 84 days. This extension provides users with 14 additional days of service. However, the total data allocation has been reduced. The plan now offers 2GB of data per day, totaling 192GB over the entire validity period, compared to the previous 3GB per day, which amounted to 252GB.

Despite the reduction in daily data, the Rs 999 plan continues to include the perk of unlimited 5G data. This adjustment appears to be Jio’s strategy to balance the extension of service days with a reduction in daily data provision, while still offering the unlimited 5G benefit to users.
