Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, has announced a significant increase in tariffs across its prepaid and postpaid plans, impacting millions of users nationwide. The revised pricing structure sees an increase in costs by up to Rs 600, reflecting a trend in the telecom industry toward higher service rates to support enhanced network infrastructure and service offerings. The new prices will be effective starting from July 3, 2024.

Prepaid plans see notable price hikes

The new tariff table indicates a substantial rise in the cost of popular prepaid plans. The entry-level monthly plan, previously priced at Rs 155 for 2 GB of data over 28 days, will now cost Rs 189. Users opting for the 1 GB per day plan over the same validity period will see their costs increase from Rs 209 to Rs 249. The 1.5 GB per day plan’s price jumps from Rs 239 to Rs 299, and the 2 GB per day plan now costs Rs 349, up from Rs 299.

For users with higher data needs, the 2.5 GB per day plan will increase from Rs 349 to Rs 399, and the 3 GB per day plan rises from Rs 399 to Rs 449. These changes mark a significant increase in monthly expenses for heavy data users.

Longer duration plans also impacted

Jio’s two-month plans have not been spared either. The 1.5 GB per day plan, which used to cost Rs 479, now has a revised price of Rs 579. The 2 GB per day plan has increased from Rs 533 to Rs 629. Additionally, the three-month 6 GB data plan now costs Rs 479, a slight rise from the previous Rs 395.

For those who prefer longer commitments, the three-month 1.5 GB per day plan’s cost rises from Rs 666 to Rs 799, the 2 GB per day plan from Rs 719 to Rs 859, and the 3 GB per day plan from Rs 999 to Rs 1199.

Annual Plans and Data Add-Ons

Annual plans have seen some of the steepest increases. The 24 GB data plan over 336 days, which was priced at Rs 1559, will now cost users Rs 1899. The 2.5 GB per day plan for 365 days jumps significantly from Rs 2999 to Rs 3599.

Data add-ons have also been affected, though the increases are relatively modest. The 1 GB add-on will cost Rs 19, up from Rs 15, and the 2 GB add-on rises from Rs 25 to Rs 29. The 6 GB add-on sees a price increase from Rs 61 to Rs 69.

Postpaid Plans see marginal increases

Postpaid users are also facing higher charges. The 30 GB plan, previously at Rs 299 per billing cycle, will now be Rs 349. The 75 GB plan increases from Rs 399 to Rs 449, marking a noticeable rise for postpaid subscribers.

Unlimited 5G data price hike

Jio has also increased the entry-barrier to use its unlimited 5G services. While previously, you could get it for Rs 239, now, unlimited 5G data will only be available on all 2GB/day and above plans which start at Rs 349 as per the new tariffs.
