iQOO 12 gets a ‘fun’ new upgrade ahead of iQOO Neo 10R India launch – know what’s changing

The iQOO 12 was supposed to be supported until 2027 before but now, this has been extended to 2028.

iQOO 12 was launched in India in December 2023.

iQOO has announced that the iQOO 12—its 2023-2024 flagship phone—will receive four years of FunTouch OS updates and five years of security patches, a year greater than what was available at launch. The iQOO 12 was supposed to be supported until 2027 before but now, this has been extended to 2028 which is to say that users can hold on to their devices for a bit longer.

The iQOO 12 is unique in many ways. It was the first iQOO phone to ship without any Hot Apps and Hot Games folders reducing the number of bloatware or unwanted apps right out of the gate. For those unaware, Hot Apps and Games are Vivo app store extensions found on most iQOO and Vivo phones, where you couldn’t uninstall them either (you can hide them in some phones now).

Today’s announcement adds another feather to its hat. Brands updating software update policies, and in particular adding support, is a rare sighting in tech and so, iQOO is clearly breaking some stereotypes with the move. The same phone, which was announced to get three years of FunTouch OS, and five years of security updates, now gets four and five years, respectively, just like the new iQOO 13.

“With this update, iQOO 12 users will be able to enjoy an even better experience with the latest OS features and improvements till 2027, as well as stay protected with enhanced security patches until 2028,” iQOO said in statement shared over email with financialexpress.com.

“The new update cycle by iQOO reinforces its dedication to security, longevity and performance ensuring devices stay up to date, run smoothly and deliver long-term value with a seamless user experience.”

The iQOO 12, otherwise, packs flagship hardware including a fast 144Hz display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS4.0 storage, and 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging. Currently, the phone retails for Rs 45,999 for 12GB/256GB and Rs 50,999 for 16GB/512GB on Amazon.

In related news, iQOO is gearing to launch the iQOO Neo 10R, an affordable mid-ranger, in India on March 11. The Neo 10R boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and is set to be priced under Rs 30,000.
