iPhone Fold could fix one big flaw that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Vivo X Fold 5 couldn’t

Apple is rumoured to be collaborating with Samsung on eliminating the crease near the hinge area. The removal of crease could finally result in a seamless and uninterrupted display – an issue that phone manufacturers have been trying to solve since the first foldables showed up.

The iPhone Fold could deal with the crease situation on the display.

The iPhone Fold might begin its journey into the world by fiixng one problem that annoys Samsung, Huawei, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus, and their foldable phone users – the main display crease.

Based on sources, it is now suggested that the first foldable iPhone from Apple is likely to rely on Samsung Display’s flexible OLED panel. While the exact display specs are still unknown, Apple is rumoured to be collaborating with Samsung on eliminating the crease near the hinge area. The removal of crease could finally result in a seamless and uninterrupted display – an issue that phone manufacturers have been trying to solve since the first foldables showed up.

Apple to make a crease-less foldable iPhone

According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple and Samsung have figured out a metal plate positioned beneath the display, primarily sourced from Fine M-Tec. This plate will play a crucial role in distributing stress uniformly and preventing the appearance of a crease.

What’s surprising is that Samsung also partners with Fine M-Tec for hinge engineering. However, its latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 still features a visible crease, albeit more subtle than previous generations. Either Samsung is bound to only be a part of the manufacturing process or Apple is relying solely on a custom-engineered design.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reports that Apple’s foldable phone will incorporate a high-quality hinge. This hinge will mask the fold line effectively when the device is open. Gurman says that mass production is anticipated to begin in the second half of 2026.

Rumours suggest that the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer screen, along with two rear cameras and one front camera. For biometric security, it is expected to utilise a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button instead of the Face ID technology, just like Android-based foldables.

The foldable iPhone is rumoured to be approximately 4.5mm thick when open and between 9mm and 9.5mm when closed, making it slightly thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.
