Well, why is it taking Apple so long to launch the new iPhones? Never mind, ignore the excitement, please! Apple has confirmed September 9, 2025, as the date of its next major launch event, where the iPhone 17 series is expected to make its debut. Apple is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 17 lineup with four distinct models. The range is likely to feature the standard iPhone 17, a thinner and more lightweight iPhone 17 Air, as well as the high-end iPhone 17 Pro and the flagship iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 lineup is rumored to debut with an upgraded take on the Dynamic Island, delivering a smoother and more intuitive experience. Additionally, both the regular and Pro editions are likely to receive advanced interactive functions and polished visual elements in the interface, driven by the next-generation iOS 26 platform. Industry insiders and experts are eagerly awaiting the launch of the iPhone series to see what new upgrades will be provided this year.
However, since newer devices are expected to join Apple’s product lineup, some older devices will have to make way for it. This basically means that some older-generation iPhones will retire this year. Moreover, older generation iPhones are not the only ones to face the axe; some older Air Pods, watches will also retire. Since older iPhones are surprisingly bringing a lot of sales, therefore older iPhones production stopping will affect sales. Additionally, we have made a list of products that Apple will retire stick to the end!
iPhone 16 Pro models
Apple usually has not kept two generations of its Pro models on sale together. Following the launch of the iPhone 17 series, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are most likely to be discontinued. This does signify the end of the road for Apple’s previous year’s flagships. However, this does not mean they will vanish immediately from the market. Retailers in India will continue selling them until the existing stock runs out. So this is the best time to grab the Pro Models before the production is stopped.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also expected to be removed from Apple’s official lineup. Instead, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain on sale. The good news for Indian users is that once the iPhone 17 series is launched, the iPhone 16 price could be officially reduced. Meanwhile, retailers may offer heavy Diwali discounts on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Moreover, since iPhone 16 series is a better upgrade compared to the iPhone 15 series devices, skipping these surely would make sense, except if the hardware upgrades don’t matter to you.
Apple Watch Series 10
Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch Series 11 at the September 9 event. With this, the Apple Watch Series 10 could be discontinued. Similarly, if Apple unveils the Watch Ultra 3, the Watch Ultra 2 may also be retired from the lineup. Although this is bad news for many buyers who wish to buy Apple older watches during the sale.
Apple Watch SE 2
Rumours suggest Apple may launch a new Apple Watch SE. If that happens, the current Watch SE 2 could be immediately discontinued. This is in line with Apple’s policy of refreshing its wearable segment alongside new iPhones. The SE watch series is launched to cater a different market, that is a little price sensitive, and therefore some people might be dismayed.
What happened last year?
Last year, after the iPhone 16 launch, Apple had discontinued the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 13, and the Watch Series 9.
