Most of you know that the iPhone 17 series will debut an all-new design. The new range, which is likely to consist of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, brings some trendy designs as well as upgraded chips, along with updated price tags to encourage more buyers to make the upgrade to the newest versions. One of the major redesigns, however, has got to be what the iPhone houses within its display.
While many have been hoping for a foldable iPhone for ages, Apple is still not ready to make that leap. Instead, the Cupertino giant is focusing its attention on the Dynamic Island this year. Based on rumours, the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may shrink, thus releasing more usable screen space for iOS 26 to utilise.
Smaller Dynamic Island on iPhone 17 Pro models
A new leak has ignited speculation that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro will feature a significantly smaller Dynamic Island. A screen protector for the new device, shared by a leaker on X (formerly Twitter), shows a cutout for the Dynamic Island that measures just 1.5 centimeters – a 25 per cent reduction from the 2cm cutout on the current iPhone models.
The Dynamic Island has been around since 2022, debuting on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The concept was brought in to replace the controversial notch that housed the front camera and FaceID sensors.
While some have previously suggested that the Dynamic Island would remain largely the same, others have hinted at a more gradual reduction. The latest leak, if accurate, would signal a major design evolution for Apple’s Pro iPhone lineup. A smaller Dynamic Island would not only make the phone’s front more symmetrical but also give users more screen real estate, especially for full-screen video content and games.
iPhone 17 Pro models launching on September 9
Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature a host of upgrades. The build is rumoured to see a change from the current titanium to a mix of glass and aluminum, a redesigned horizontal camera bar on the back, and refreshing things up.
Both models are tipped to receive a performance boost from the new A19 Pro chipset and a bump to 12GB of RAM. The camera system is also a focal point, with leaks suggesting an all-48MP triple-lens setup and an upgraded 24MP front camera. Additionally, the Pro models may feature a larger battery, improved thermal management through vapour chamber cooling, and a slightly smaller Dynamic Island for a more expansive display.
