While the iPhone 17 Air was one of the highlights of the Apple event 2025, the star of the show has got to be the iPhone 17 Pro series. Consisting of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, these two Pro iPhones offer a lot more upgrades than the outgoing models and bring a host of changes to make them more appealing. And yes, that rumoured orange colourway is present – the Pro iPhone finally has a colour!

iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max: What’s new?
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max look different and fresh – thanks to the new unibody aluminium construction. However, this is not just for aesthetics. The unibody design also allows Apple to embed the antenna lines cleverly around the new camera hump and improve system performance. It also allows for a bigger capacity battery and superior thermal performance management.
The Apple-designed vapour chamber is laser-welded into the chassis and works with the new A19 Pro chip to deliver up to 40 per cent better sustained performance. Apple says that it allows the devices to handle demanding tasks like 4K video editing and high-end gaming without compromising comfort. The design also features the new Ceramic Shield 2 protection on both the front and back, providing three times better scratch resistance and a four times better crack resistance.
The camera system is a major leap forward too, offering three 48MP Fusion cameras: a Main, an Ultra Wide, and a new Telephoto lens. This includes an 8x optical-quality zoom via the enw 48MP telephoto camera. The new 18MP Center Stage front camera also promises to take better selfies and nicer video calls, using AI to automatically adjust the frame to keep subjects centered and stable.
For pro filmmakers and creators, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are the first smartphones to support ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock, allowing for seamless integration into professional video productions.
Beyond the camera and design, the new Pro models feature a stunning Super Retina XDR display, with the Pro Max model offering a huge 6.9-inch screen. Both displays include ProMotion technology, an Always-On feature, and upto 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The efficiency of the A19 Pro chip and iOS 26 promises Apple’s best battery life ever, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max now offering a full day of use.
Storage options have also been upgraded, with the Pro model starting at 256GB and the Pro Max introducing a new 2TB capacity for its topmost model. The new iPhones come in three colourways: deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver.
