Apple’s next flagship iPhone could be special in many ways including its charging capabilities. iPhone 16 Pro may finally see a substantial improvement in charging speeds, if recent leaks hold any truth. A report from ITHome, a Chinese tech publication, claims the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will support 40W wired charging, a huge leap from the current 27W maximum on the iPhone 15 series.

This upgrade would bring Apple’s charging capabilities closer to those of many Android competitors, some of which offer well over 100W fast charging. However, Samsung- one of the country’s leading phone makers, currently maxes out at 45W wired charging. So this means that the rumoured 40W for iPhone 16 Pro would at least narrow the gap.

Wireless charging might also see a bump, with the leak suggesting the iPhone 16 Pro series will support 20W MagSafe charging, compared to the current 15W.

While these leaks seem promising, it’s important to remember that information is not confirmed by Apple. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement or further reliable leaks to be certain about the charging capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro.

If true, this upgrade could be a welcome change for iPhone users who are by now tired of slower charging speeds compared to many Android devices. A faster charging iPhone 16 Pro would allow users to top up their batteries more quickly, reducing the time spent tied to a charger.

While the faster charging rumours dominate the headlines, other whispers surround the iPhone 16. Some reports suggest all iPhone 16 models might ditch the notch entirely, opting for an under-display camera for an expansive screen experience. Another rumour hints at a possible switch to a more powerful A18 Bionic chip. There’s also speculation that Apple might finally offer a USB-C port on the iPhone 16, aligning with industry standards and potentially improving data transfer speeds. However, these are all just rumours for now, and Apple remains tightlipped until the official unveiling.
