Instagram will soon allow users to add comments in stories. During  the launch of the Creator Lab in India, Instagram announced the new feature.

According  to an official post, Instagram now allows you to comment on people’s stories, without leading them to reply in DMs. The new feature is named ‘Comment in Stories’.

What’s new

The feature was earlier announced during the Creator Lab in India, where the social media platform explained that the new feature will help you to interact more with your followers. Furthermore, “You can now leave comments on friends’ Stories to show them some love”, Instagram also wrote in an official post.

Earlier you could reply to stories but that would take you to the person’s DMs. However with the new update the comments will be visible to everyone. This means each comment that you add in reply to these stories, will be open to all. However, the comment feature is only allowed for mutual friends. This means that if you are following the user, then only you can add a comment in their stories.

According to The Verge, Emily Norfolk, who is a spokesperson of Instagram, explained that this feature will be more flexible than the previous feature of replying in DMs. She further added that this feature also keeps in mind the privacy of users. You will be able to turn off comments in case you don’t want it to be seen by random people, who are not your followers. You can also turn on or turn off the option to add comments in your stories. Moreover, the update aims to create a safe and personal space for Instagram users.

Other updates

In other news, a few days earlier Instagram had introduced a feature that could allow you to add 20 photos and videos in a single grid. Earlier you could only add 10 photos and videos, now you can double up the  number.

The feature was first noticed by @aplasticplant who is an Instagram user. He posted that Instagram will be expanding the capacity of a single grid. Notably, grid is a space where you can add videos and photos for a single post. In the social media post, @aplasticplant explained that “Instagram now allows users to share up to 20 slides in a single post. Previously, users could only add up to 10 pieces of content in each carousel post.” He further added that the post was initially available only for global users and is expected to be available to all soon.
