Contrary to popular belief, Google’s YouTube Premium Lite is not dead; it is very much alive and expanding. The subscription plan, which offers an ad-free experience at a lower price point, is being tested in more countries, providing users with an affordable alternative to the standard Premium offering. Lite version, which removes ads but lacks additional features found in the standard Premium subscription, is priced at approximately half the cost of the regular plan.
YouTube Premium Lite allows subscribers to enjoy uninterrupted viewing by eliminating ads, but it’s important to note that it does not remove all ads completely. Instead, YouTube describes the experience as having “limited ads.” This minimalist approach targets users who primarily want to avoid interruptions while watching videos without the added benefits of offline downloads or background play available in the full Premium plan.
The Lite subscription was previously tested in select markets but saw a temporary discontinuation in late 2023. However, it was not entirely abandoned, as Google continued exploring options, particularly in Thailand. Recently, the plan has resurfaced, with reports indicating that users in Australia and Germany are now able to subscribe. In Australia, the cost for YouTube Premium Lite is set at AUD 11.99 per month, while in Germany, it is priced at €5.99 per month.
Google has confirmed to Android Authority that testing of YouTube Premium Lite is indeed taking place in these regions, along with Thailand. While users have begun to notice the availability of the plan, it remains unclear whether Google intends to roll it out to additional countries in the future.
YouTube Premium offers ad-free viewing experience across both YouTube and YouTube Music, starting at Rs 149 per month. Subscribers also get additional features, including offline downloads and background play, allowing them to watch videos and listen to music without interruptions. The service provides both prepaid and monthly plans, with new users having the opportunity to start with a free trial on monthly subscriptions.
YouTube Premium offers three subscription plans to cater to different users. The Individual plan starts at Rs 149 per month, available as prepaid or monthly, with a free trial for new subscribers. The Family plan is priced at Rs 299 per month and allows you to add up to five family members aged 13 and older, with a one-month trial available for Rs 0. Additionally, the Student plan offers a discounted rate of Rs 89 per month for eligible students, also featuring a one-month trial for Rs 0, subject to annual verification and restrictions.
