Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed his condolences on the passing of Ratan Tata, highlighting the remarkable legacy he leaves behind in both business and philanthropy. In a post on X, Pichai noted that Tata “deeply cared about making India better.” The esteemed industrialist, who was 86, passed away on Wednesday night at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Reflecting on their last meeting at Google, Pichai recalled discussing the progress of Waymo and found Tata’s vision to be truly inspiring. He emphasized that Tata was instrumental in mentoring and shaping modern business leadership in India. Pichai extended his deep condolences to Tata’s loved ones and wished him peace.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, also shared his heartfelt condolences, expressing disbelief over Tata’s absence. He stated that India’s economy is on the brink of a significant transformation, much of which can be attributed to Tata’s influence. Mahindra lamented that Tata’s mentorship would have been invaluable during this pivotal time, urging everyone to follow his example. He recognized Tata as a businessman who believed that financial success should serve the global community, saying goodbye with the sentiment that “Legends never die.”

Ratan Tata was one of India’s most revered industrialists, elevating the Tata Group and making significant contributions to the nation in various fields, including philanthropy. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he chaired the Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, two of India’s largest private philanthropic organizations. Tata led Tata Sons, the holding company for the Tata Group, from 1991 until his retirement in 2012, after which he was named Chairman Emeritus. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honor, in 2008.
