Samsung has started to roll out Galaxy AI features to more devices, as promised. The roll out is officially kicking off with the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Buds FE bringing two of Samsung’s brand-new Galaxy AI features — live translate and interpreter — to more people. The catch is that, you’ll need a Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphone to use them, at least at the moment.
With live translate, users can get real-time call translation on their Galaxy S24 series smartphones, while they are talking through the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Buds 2 or Galaxy Buds FE. Interpreter meanwhile allows users to get two-way, face-to-face interpretation through the Galaxy Buds interface “eliminating the need to hand over the phone and manage translated talking,” Samsung says in a press release.
Both features are now rolling out to eligible devices through an OTA (over-the-air) update available through Samsung’s Galaxy Wear application.
Samsung has already confirmed that it plans to bring Galaxy AI features this year to about “100 million Galaxy smartphones for the global expansion of mobile AI” starting with “select Galaxy devices” in the first half of 2024. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are the usual suspects but the company also plans to jumpstart the relatively entry-level Galaxy S23 FE with AI smarts. The Galaxy Tab S9 tablets are also eligible for the upgrade. The Galaxy Buds update is coming as a bit of a surprise but one that should be widely appreciated even as Samsung looks at generative AI to differentiate its product set from rivals, particularly Apple.
