Elon Musk announced that on X, if a post is corrected by the community’s fact-checking system called “Community Notes,” it will no longer be eligible to earn revenue. This is being done to encourage accuracy and discourage sensationalism, according to Musk.

“Making a slight change to creator monetization: Any posts that are corrected by @CommunityNotesv become ineligible for revenue share. The idea is to maximize the incentive for accuracy over sensationalism,” Musk posted on X on Sunday.

Twitter now known as X has been criticised for poor handling of misinformation on the platform. The European Union’s industry chief, Thierry Breton, has also voiced his criticism of the company for allowing the persistence of both illegal content and disinformation.

The company says that it is taking steps to improve accuracy, like speeding up fact-checking and encouraging users to provide more context when their posts are fact-checked. The aim is to combat the spread of inaccurate and sensational information on X.

In October, X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced the introduction of thousands of Community Notes on the platform. These are Twitter’s way of providing additional context for misleading or inaccurate posts to help curb the spread of misinformation.

As part of creator’s monetisation programs introduced by Elon Musk, more X users now have the opportunity to earn a share of revenue for creating and sharing viral content. Unfortunately, some individuals have taken advantage of this program to disseminate violent and provocative content related to ongoing conflicts, even if the information is false.
