After AI, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk seems to have targeted Meta-owned WhatsApp saying the Meta-owned platform allegedly exports users’ data every night. News comes in that Elon Musk made a statement that “WhatsApp exports your user data every night.”

When an X user posted that WhatsApp exports user data every night, which is “analysed and used for targeted advertising, making users the product, not the customer”. Elon Musk responded to the tweet saying that WhatsApp can take away user data every night”. He also added that “Some people still think it is secure.”

What does Elon Musk have to say about WhatsApp?

On May 25, “WhatsApp exports your user data every night. Some people still think it is secure,” Musk tweeted. John Carmack, responded to Elon Musk “I assume usage patterns and routing metadata is collected, and if you invoke a bot in a conversation you are obviously opening it up, but I am still under the impression that the message contents are secure by default.”

It seems like the X owner is still in a cage war with the Meta platform owner Mark Zuckerberg. Earlier also he had attacked him by claiming that Meta is super greedy at taking credit for advertisers who run campaigns on its platform.

And the conflict continues!

From what it is understood, Musk had said that “WhatsApp exports your user data every night. Some people still think it is secure.” However, now Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, has called out Musk on making incorrect claims.

In response to his statement, Cathcart tweeted that “Many have said this already, but worth repeating: this is not correct.” He also explained hat WhatsApp messages are encrypted and nothing gets exported to the instant messaging platform.

Furthermore, “We take security seriously and that’s why we end-to-end encrypt your messages. They don’t get sent to us every night or exported to us,” Cathcart wrote against Musk’s claims. Cathcart also advised users that if they don’t want to backup they have other options. “If you do want to backup your messages, you can use your cloud provider and you can even use end-to-end encryption for that too,”  Cathcart concluded.
