Smartphones prove to be an excellent tool for reading text content on the go, whether one is in the comfort of their bed or at work. However, certain websites may be plagued by ads or possess subpar layouts and formatting, diminishing the overall reading experience.
For an uninterrupted reading experience, users can try out the ‘Reading mode’ app on Android, crafted by Google. This app facilitates focused content consumption by eliminating ads and presenting articles in a readily readable format. Upon downloading and installing it from the Google Play Store, and upon launching the app, a window resembling the image below will appear.
Upon tapping the ‘Continue’ button, the individual should proceed to click on ‘Settings.’ This action leads to a new window where they need to scroll down to locate the ‘Reading mode’ app within the ‘Downloaded apps’ section.
Tapping on the app enables the Accessibility shortcut. At this point, the user can opt to activate Reading Mode either by tapping a virtual on-screen button or simultaneously pressing both volume keys. Preferences may vary, with some opting for an on-screen virtual button, while others favor the volume key combination, as it doesn’t occupy screen space.
With the setup complete, individuals can open their preferred web browser and access the desired article. After the page has loaded, pressing the on-screen button or using the volume up plus volume down key combination initiates reading mode. It may take a few seconds for the app to display all the content, effectively eliminating distractions and blank spaces.
Further customization options are available, such as changing fonts by pressing the right button or having the phone read the article aloud by pressing the play button in the middle. The app provides a range of customization features, allowing users to easily adjust text font and size to suit their preferences.
