Microsoft has announced the removal of WordPad along with a few other features of Windows. However, the original support document didn’t specify which version of Windows operating system will be removed. With insights from the official page,“WordPad will be removed from all editions of Windows starting in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025”.

As part of the removal of WordPad, the following binaries will also be removed from the operating system (OS) including wordpad.exe, wordpadfilter.dll and write.exe. It is believed that users just have a few months to continue using WordPad, as the new version of 24H will be launched soon. As the news raises an alarm, experts believe that there are other options such as the updated version of Notepad, Google docs and Office 365 suite, among others.

Experts believe that it might take some time for users to adapt with the new changes. Windows will no longer have a built-in, default RTF reader. As per official report, Microsoft has recommended to use Microsoft word for rich text documents such as .doc and .rtf and Notepad for plain text documents such as .txt, for the time being. In addition to this VBScript will also be available as a feature before being removed in future. Initially, the VBScript feature is expected to be preinstalled to allow for uninterrupted use while you prepare for the retirement of VBScript. It is believed that the new version will upgrade the security features of Windows.
