Apple might soon introduce Sony’s VR controllers as an optional accessory for Vision Pro users. That’s what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in his ‘Power On’ newsletter. On December 8, Gurman explained that the collaboration of Apple and Sony has been in discussions for several months now. But what does this mean to you and how it’s gonna change your virtual reality (VR) experience? Let’s check how!

Sony and Apple collabs: Aims to bring support for PlayStation VR2

So what’s the plan? Reportedly, Apple will collaborate with Sony to bring support for PlayStation VR2 hand controllers to the Vision Pro.  He further added that Xbox and PS5 controllers are already supported by Vision Pro. However, they aren’t optimized for virtual reality experiences. In addition to this both the controllers lacked the six degrees of freedom (6DOF) needed for precise VR gaming controls. To improve the loopholes, Apple and Sony might bring this device. As speculations suggest, Apple would begin selling Sony’s controllers soon, which aren’t currently available on their own.

Apart from enhancing your gaming experience, the controllers could also upgrade  other tasks and media editing in visionOS. The controller can allow you to direct the operating system (OS). You just need to use the controller’s thumbstick and the directional pad for doing any of your preferred tasks.  The devices could also offer more precise controls in apps such as Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

The roadmap ahead

Looking ahead, no official announcement has been made yet by both the tech giants. As the companies have already postponed their initially planned reveal, it’s uncertain when we actually get the product. The partnership comes after Apple faces challenges with Vision Pro adoption. It has been found that about less than 500,000 units have been sold. Notably, the Vision Pro was launched in February .

In other news, the tech giant is expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026. It is suggested that the upcoming foldable iPhone might feature cutting-edge technology. This could include a flexible OLED display that can withstand hundreds of thousands of folds without any tear or wear. Also,  a sleek design and  a powerful chip could come.
