Apple took wraps off its Apple Watch Series 9 during the recent Apple “Far Out” event on Sept 12 and the reports of Apple Watch Series 10 have already begun to create buzz on the internet.

Apple’s upcoming grand release, Apple Watch Series 10 (also known as, Apple Watch X), is said to feature blood pressure tracking and sleep apnea monitoring to offer a better health profile for the users. Bloomberg reported.

The Bloomberg report delves even deeper; it says that the upcoming Watch 10 will also get non-invasive blood glucose monitoring for pre-diabetic conditions. It adds that the reports, although, won’t be medical grade, however, it will show trends for users’ blood sugar levels and issue warnings if they enter a pre-diabetic state.

Apple employs short-wave infrared absorption spectroscopy to shine light through the user’s skin, passing through the spaces between blood vessels and cells. The reflected light is then analysed to determine the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream. And, that’s pretty much how this works.

A recent Bloomberg report shed light on the early stages of Apple Watch development, which began towards the end of Steve Jobs’ tenure as CEO. Jobs assigned top execs to develop a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring feature. To pursue this, Apple launched Avolonte Health, a startup aimed at creating a blood glucose monitor for the initial Apple Watch (Series 1), although this attempt ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Avolonte Health was situated in a small two-story building in Palo Alto, California, just a brief 15-minute drive from Apple’s headquarters. Its team included a diverse range of professionals, including engineers, health consultants, medical device experts, and sleep scientists.

It’s noteworthy that Apple initially contemplated making the Apple Watch and Apple Health compatible with Android devices but later abandoned this idea, likely due to the Apple Watch’s pivotal role in driving iPhone sales.
