Apple’s plan to upgrade its AI assistant Siri has been in the news for quite some time. The company aims to make Siri capable of initiating a human-like conversation. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant plans to bring this ‘updated Siri’ by 2026. Let’s have a detailed look at what awaits you!
Siri to Get a Makeover
The Cupertino-based tech giant claims that the goal is to make Siri engage in continuous conversations with users and respond in a more natural and human-like manner. With the addition of large language models (LLMs), Siri will also be capable of handling more complex tasks. Please note that this feature currently requires OpenAI’s ChatGPT in iOS 18.2. So, with the update, there will be no need for ChatGPT.
Gurman explains that the ‘human-like Siri’ will initially come in a standalone app on iPads, Macs, and iPhones. The aim is to slowly replace the existing version. The new Siri could possibly come by 2025, potentially during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
However, while there will be early previews of the updated Siri, Apple does not plan to release it immediately. The current aim is to roll out the updated version by spring 2026. In addition to the new Siri, Apple also plans to launch its iOS 19 version.
Other Updates
Furthermore, as part of the iOS 18 update, Apple will also improve Siri’s functionality by adding Apple Intelligence. Notably, Apple Intelligence is Apple’s in-house artificial intelligence (AI). The use of Apple Intelligence will improve Siri’s ability to manage tasks within and between apps. Siri can now pass requests to ChatGPT without the need for an account. Also, you can send requests to ChatGPT without needing permission each time. As of now, the immediate update coming to Siri will arrive in December.
When it comes to personalization, Apple has always been ahead of its competitors. In line with this, Apple has launched a new tracking device, ‘Share Item Location.’ So, what is this device? The “Share Item Location” is created to help you track and recover lost/misplaced items easily. This feature allows you to securely share the location of your AirTags or other Find My network accessories with third parties. This could include the airlines you are traveling with and also your friends and family. Additionally, you can disable the feature according to your need.
