Ever wondered why it’s always 9:41 AM and not any other time showing on Apple’s devices, during launch events. Is it just some kind of superstitious belief or advertising strategy? Here’s what some experts have to say about it.

Scott Forsall, ex-senior vice president of iOS software at Apple and also an important contributor to the original iPhone and iPad has decoded the mysterious time setup. Forsall has given a detailed explanation about Apple’s 9:41 AM time display.

Decoding ‘9:41 AM’ time frame

Each Apple product from iPhone to MacBook, displays a mysterious ‘9:41 AM’ time zone during their launch. But why is the exact time frame displayed across different time zones? It might seem a minor thing but Forsall explains how it has its own significance. He said that during keynote presentations, Apple always targets their product reveal to occur around 40 minutes into the presentation. So, in order to align the time on the device screens with the actual event, Apple set the time to 9:42 AM, providing a slight buffer to ensure accuracy.

However, the tradition of displaying 9:41 AM can be associated with Steve Jobs’ practices. As explained by Forsall, during rehearsals for the iPhone’s launch,  Steve Jobs, ex-CEO of Apple, would introduce the device at 9:41 AM. This tradition then kept on going and each and every Apple device’s images were set to this time.

Furthermore, Forstall noted, “Our estimates were quite accurate, so for the iPad, we adjusted to 41 minutes into the presentation. And thus, the time became a subtle yet consistent part of our product unveilings.”
