One thing we all have been excited about apart from iPhone 15 series release is nothing but the iOS 17 update. It is eligible for all iPhones starting XR and later models. The update has been smooth with the introduction of a plethora of features, one thing that we most liked was its update to auto-correction, and maybe Contact Posters. Aesthetics have been taken care of, as seen in the AirDrop tap feature. However, security has surely been compromised, yet again.

Apple quickly realised this issue and pushed a follow-up update promptly: iOS 17.0.1 and iPadOS 17.0.1 for iPad users. Take note that this is just a security update and no new features. However, it’s necessary to update your iPhones or iPads promptly.

iOS 17.0.1 addresses these security vulnerabilities

Apple notes on the support page that iOS 17.0.1 mainly focuses on fixing these issues: Kernel, Security, and WebKit.

Kernel is notably the core of an operating system, and Apple believes that an attacker may exploit the device, or possibly access it therefore this update is necessary and must be done as priority.

The second issue improves app security by closing a gap that could let a harmful app bypass signature checks, enabling it to evade typical safeguards against malicious behaviour. Additionally, the update addresses a WebKit vulnerability that could permit malicious web content (like links or images) to execute code on your device, potentially gaining control.

This comes two weeks after Apple had pushed a security update. Before iOS 17 update, Apple had released iOS 16.7 for iPhones and iPadOS 16.7 addressing the same issues.
