Apple first introduced the Touch Bar in 2016 as part of its MacBook Pro lineup. The Touch Bar has always elicited mixed reactions from users. Apple made several attempts to revamp the Touch Bar, but it appears that today may mark Apple’s goodbye to this feature. Earlier this morning, during the “Scary Fast” event, Apple unveiled two new MacBook Pros— one with a 13-inch display and another with a 14-inch screen, both powered by 3nm M3 processors.
Earlier 14-inch MacBook Pro was only available with higher-end Pro or Max chipsets, but this time Apple has released an M3 variant, too, alongside the M3 Pro and M3 Max. And, it doesn’t have a Touch Bar. The base-level MacBook Pro shares the same external design as the 14-inch models, featuring a 14-inch screen and a notch.

Most importantly, Apple claims significant performance enhancements over the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro, with tasks like Final Cut Pro rendering up to 60 per cent faster. But, it’s too early for now and not entirely clear how big of an upgrade is this in real life but it’s an upgrade any day over Apple’s previous M2 and obviously M1.

The Touch Bar, as said above, made headlines with the 2016 MacBook Pro debut but it struggled among users, especially in the long run. But Apple kept in any way by making improvements after user feedback. It pulled the Esc button out of the Touch Bar but no efforts were solidly received. Thus, Apple removed the Touch Bar from 2021’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. However, its 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 or M2 continues to receive a Touch Bar but now Touch Bar isn’t a thing even in entry-level MacBook Pros as seen in the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro.
