This year Apple came up with AirPods Pro with a new range of exciting features. As Apple came up with AirPods Pro, it hinted about updating it as a medical device. The new AirPods series came with a redefined design, updated audio quality and other advanced features.
The company claimed that this year it aims to make AirPods not just an audio device but an audio device that can cater as a hearing aid also. It will bring the world’s first hearing health experience. Apple has always been known for its ‘out of the box’ deliverables, and this year’s announcement was not an exception.

Amidst the ‘Its Glowtime’ iPhone 16 series launch, Apple came up with a surprise announcement for an upcoming feature of AirPods Pro 2. The tech giant said that it will be introducing a first end-to-end hearing health experience. With this feature you can get a clinical-grade hearing test and hearing aid feature. “With a revolutionary update to the world’s best-selling headphones, AirPods Pro will deliver groundbreaking new capabilities — including Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features,” John Ternus, senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, Apple, explained.
AirPods Pro 2’s hearing features can be groundbreaking looking at the number of people suffering from hearing loss. According to the US Food and Drug Administration around 30 million of US adults have some degree of hearing loss. So, how will the ‘hearing aid’ feature work? After you take a hearing test, your AirPods Pro will get transformed into a personalized hearing aid. This will help to boost specific sounds an affected user needs in real-time, such as parts of speech and elements within their environment.
But what makes Apple’s device different? Usually a hearing aid costs a lot and studies suggest that most of them don’t go for an expert consultation due to this. Also, consultation can be time consuming and hectic sometimes. Apple has cross checked these shortcomings. It aims to keep the cost of these AirPods Pro 2 with hearing aid, at a minimal cost (much less than your basic hearing aid devices). In addition as the feature comes in-built, you don’t need to worry about going to clinics. You can easily get hearing tests and daily check ups at your fingertips.
Please note that these devices can’t be treated as hearing aid devices. Apple still needs to receive FDA clearance, for marking it as a professional level ‘hearing aid device’. Furthermore, the upcoming hearing aid feature will be available this fall for AirPods Pro 2. The company further said that this feature will be available to users in more than 100 countries and regions.
AirPods series: The next era of Airpods?
This year Apple brings two new Airpods 4 versions. These are AirPods with ANC, and Airpods 4.The AirPods 4 will be getting a 24- hour battery life. You can expect a revolutionary open-ear design, with high-end control features. With a new force sensor on the stem you can play or pause media and mute or end calls with just a quick press.
On the other hand, the AirPods 4 with ANC can help to reduce environmental noise. With features like adaptive audio, you get the space to focus on the audio you want to prioritize. For example if you are playing a song and having a conversation with someone you meet on the road, your device will automatically lower down the volume of the music. Pretty cool right.
