Following 9,000 layoffs at Microsoft, Xbox hiring post generates new controversy.

Microsoft is facing a lot of criticism lately for laying off over 9000 employees. While the affected workforce is coping up with the sudden layoff, a new controversy has broken out regarding a hiring post made for the Xbox team. The hiring post, which utilised an AI-generated image for listing the job profile, has garnered significant flak from netizens.

The post, which listed the job profile for a backend developer, carried the caption, “The Xbox Graphics team is hiring folks with experience with device drivers, GPU performance, or related validation or engineering system experience.” The post also had the links to the two job roles, looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Xbox Graphics and Software Engineer 2 – Xbox Graphics. Both positions are based out of Microsoft’s Redmond office in Washington.

The post also accompanied an AI generated image with the caption, “Xbox Graphics is Hiring”.The image showcased a girl working at the computer.

Netizens, however, were quick to question Microsoft’s judgment, expressing dismay over the use of AI-generated art. Some even made a mockery of the recruitment advertisement, asking Microsoft to hire a good graphics designer for such purposes. Many critics pointed out at the irony and insensitivity of employing AI instead of humans for such creative tasks, especially in the wake of a global layoff spree.

The quality of the AI-generated image also became the topic of discussion, mocking the generic aesthetics. The AI-generated image shows the girl looking at the backside of the computer monitor, which makes little sense.
