Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is gearing upto bring a new feature for the newly launched Aadhaar app that will enable users to update their address directly using the app. This feature has been demanded by users for a long time now and it looks like this functionality will very soon be offered to Aadhaar card holders. Importantly this feature will eliminate the need to visit an enrollment center for updating the address linked to Aadhaar card.

In a post on ‘X’ the Aadhaar regulatory body UIDAI announced that address updates will soon be possible from home using secure digital verification. The upcoming feature will be using a combination of OTP verification and face authentication through the Aadhaar app to confirm a user’s identity.“Coming Soon! Update Address in Aadhaar from the comfort of your home through OTP & Face Authentication,” UIDAI wrote in its official post on X (formerly Twitter).

How the feature will work

The Aadhaar app will use a two-step verification process to maintain strong security.

First, to update the details, users will receive a one-time password (OTP) on their existing or new mobile number. Following this, they will be required to complete face authentication through the app, allowing UIDAI to digitally match their live facial data with existing Aadhaar records. This approach removes the need for physical documentation and centre-based verification while keeping the update process secure.

According to UIDAI, this feature is designed to be seamless and user-friendly, enabling Aadhaar holders to update their details by simply entering their Aadhaar number, selecting their preferred language, verifying the OTP, and completing face authentication. Users will also need to set up a six-digit security PIN to lock their Aadhaar profile within the app, adding an extra layer of protection.

How to Download this Application?

Download the App: Visit Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) and search for the official “Aadhaar” app, then download and install it on your smartphone.

Enter Aadhaar Number: Open the app, select your preferred language, and enter your 12- digit Aadhaar number

Verify with OTP: Complete verification through the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number
Complete Face Authentication: Perform mandatory face scan authentication to confirm your identity and prevent potential misuse

Set Security PIN: Create a six-digit security PIN to lock and protect your profile
